Lyttleton "Tanny" Shirley '71 - Businessman

Lyttleton Ovel Shirley: Demonstrates an entrepreneurial spirit which,
to date, has resulted in his shareholding involvement with a total of
eight (8) companies. In addition to Mitchell's Auto Supplies, there are
Mitchell's Used Parts and Service Centre Limited, Hagley's Auto
Supplies (Successors) Limited, Shirlhome Chemical Corporation
Limited, Tan-Marj Investments Limited, Tanaj Property Holdings
Accessories Limited, and Bottom line Wholesale & Haberdashery
Limited.
In 1971, he left St. Andrew Technical High School for Chicago where
he attended Illinois Institute of Technology. Following four (4) years
of graduate studies in Chemical Engineering, he returned to Jamaica
and became involved in the Auto Parts Industry through the
acquisition of Hagley's Auto Supplies (Successors) Limited.
Since then, he has worked assiduously to establish companies that
have as their hallmark, excellent customer service and products of
the highest quality. His dynamic drive, visionary approach to business
and the knowledge gained in Chemical Engineering,
all contribute to the resounding success of his companies.
Lyttleton Shirley has been involved in all aspects of operations, from
planning and development to marketing and purchasing in each of
his companies. He presently concentrates on the marketing and
purchasing aspects of each entity. He capitalizes on every opportunity
that comes his way, an approach which, in late 2003, led to the
acquisition of the property at 63 Hagley Park Road adjacent to
Mitchell's Auto Supplies. Keenly attuned to market trends and needs,
he started Mitchell's Used Parts and Service Centre in May 2004,
operating from part of the old existing structure, while launching the
construction of state-of-the-art facilities with the clear goal being to
expand the market share of Mitchell's and the establishment of
Mitchell's as the first complete auto centre in Jamaica.
The Mitchell's Complex caters to customers' every need, providing
trendy accessories new and used auto parts, a newly opened Service
Centre with state-of-the-art electronic equipment, including wheel
alignment and balancing and diagnostic testing services, the
Part'sman Food Court, ICWI office, Paymaster, RBTT ABM Unit,
Supreme Ventures Outlet, Wholesaler's Choice branch as well as a
Digicel retail outlet. Mitchell's is indeed the ultimate One-Stop Auto
Care Centre - a first " experience for the discerning Jamaican
consumer.
His high corporate standards, unbridled passion excellence, coupled
with his strong motivational style flair for originality, have contributed
to the other companies in the group maintaining top positions in the
market, despite fierce competition. With a "hands-on"management
approach being taken, Mr. Shirley strives ensure the ultimate success
of his enterprises. Mr. Shirley encourages his staff to expand their
perspective by thinking
along broader lines while reinforcing the commonality of their
objectives.
His far-sighted way of thinking has led him to seek avenues for
project development and expansion, which explains his involvement
in other investments, such Tourism and Real Estate. His boundless
energy flows into his recreational activities of jogging, playing of
jogging playing dominoes and being an avid fan of cricket, boxing
and basketball. He relaxes by spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Shirley is actively involved in community and development. He is
a Master Mason with the I Lodge. He sits on the Queen's School
Board and has contributed to the welfare of students at the I Primary
School through Shirlhome Chemical's adoption the school. As a
member of the Moravian Church, Mr. Shirley also sits on the Hector
Street Church Development Committee as well as the Skills Centre
Board Management.
His wife Madge is his partner in life, as well as in They have two
daughters, Tanya and Tanice.
