Rob Dennis '80 - Architect
ROB DENNIS was born in London in 1968. He was educated at St.
University and UEL School of Architecture London. Qualifications
include ONC Building Studies, HNC Building Studies, BSc (Hons)
Architecture, PG Dip Arch, MA (History & Theory) Architecture.

Rob is an Architect and Technologist with over twelve years
architectural experience working on a variety of commercial,
residential and corporate projects in London, Amsterdam, Madrid,
Jamaica and Lisbon.

He has gained significant knowledge over the years by working with
Ellis Williams, Broadway Malyan and HOK International in delivering
key projects both in the UK and abroad.

How does diversity reveal itself in your work?
Diversity is evident in my work through the variety of Project types
undertaken and the mode of representation. The representation
reflects a concretization of diverse schools of thoughts as it seeks to
find a new agenda or program. In abstracting the Concept
representation and extrapolating that abstraction, an evocative
architectural construct evolves.

How does working in a multi-cultural city inspire you?
The notion of a multi-cultural city is not new. It has existed for
many years. I grew up in Kingston, Jamaica where this was very
evident. Even within a single Nationality there are cultural diversities.
The various latent and expressed meanings within cultures are
extracted, manipulated through abstraction and applied to our
projects. Culture therefore acts as a reservoir of inspiration.
Who are your role models?

No role models. We define our own path.
Sources of inspiration, admiration and reflection
///  Renzo Piano Workshop
///  Zaha Hadid
///  Studio Daniel Libskin
///  Morphosis
///  Eric Owen Moss & ‘LA School’
///  Paul Henry Architects

What advice would you give to someone wishing to become an
architect?
Be as diverse as you can be in your High School Education, focus at
first degree stage and return to diversity at the second degree stage
!  Define your own path. Go for it. Architecture is a rewarding
profession…..to say the least.
