In July 1990 S.W. Isaac-Henry Principal for
twenty-one years died. He was succeeded by Mrs.
Carole Powell In July 1990. S.W. Isaac-Henry
Principal for who continued to build on the
excellent foundation that had been laid. Mrs.
Powell continued to upgrade the school and in
1992 the Learning Centre was upgraded to a
Computer Laboratory. Additional computers were
acquired and students were now being trained in
information technology.
In the 1990s the school continued to excel in academics, the arts
and sports. In 1994 the Drama Club won a gold medal in the JCDC
Speech and Drama
Festival. In 1995 the Athletics team won overall champions at the
Jambisco Development Meet. It was under Mrs. Powell's leadership
that the baking programme was introduced, building technology and
plumbing were merged, and the first Information Technology lab
was established. She has of Technical and Vocational Education and
Training in the Secondary School System.
The recipient of a Mico Teachers' college Diploma, Mrs. Powell has
also achieved other professional certificates and numerous awards.
Serving on the STATHS staff for a period of twenty six years. Mrs.
Powell resigned in 1996 after giving over thirty years of dedicated
service to STATHS. The mantle was passed on to the Reverend
Ronald Walters


Mrs. Powell resigned in 1995 after giving over

Walters headed the institution for two years. R.G.
Walters served as Vice Principal 1992 - 1995.
During his tenure as Principal the Technical High
School Development Project (THSDP) was
introduced. Rev. Walters was an integral part of
this project. He was instrumental in securing
funding from THSDP for the erection of the
perimeter fencing on the southern end of the
An advocate for excellence" "a dedicated worker"
"a people based personality" "a well- rounded
team player" "Stern at the right time" are but few
of the descriptions which aptly summarizes the
personality of Curline V. Christie Her proud roots
are from Westmoreland, though most of her
formative years were Kingston based. Her
advent to St Andrew Technical as a teacher of
Home Economics followed her years of
post-college service at Oberlin High School (1972-1976). Mrs.
Christie was appointed Head of the Home Economics Department in
1983, served as Vice Principal 1995-1998 and rose to the rank of
Acting Principal in 1998-2001 and has been appointed in this
capacity since.
Educational practices in an effort to contribute effectively to the
professional development of her teachers and overall management
of St. Andrew Technical. One of her favourite expressions is "We
must network..."
Several career-related associations in which she holds membership
provide this "life-long learner" with ongoing professional enrichment.
These include the:

- The Jamaica Home Economic Association
- Jamaica Association of Secondary Schools Principals
- Technical High School Principals Association
- Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development
(ASCD)
- The Reading Association of Jamaica
- STATHS Torchbearers Toast Masters' Club
As principal of St. Andrew Technical High School she offers
invaluable service to the school community and participates actively
in the school's community outreach projects. Coupled with her love
for Home Economics and Fashion Designing is her passion for
sports; her strongest passion is football.
One often wonders if Mrs. Christie finds time for herself. Yes, she
does. And what does she do? She reads and reads and reads!
Everything, anything, everywhere. All the time! She is Currently
reading for her Doctoral at Nova Southeastern.
